There’s a certain amount of trust involved when it comes to a larger purchase such as new flooring. At John Bradshaw and Son carpets of Bristol, we understand that our customers are paying not just to have new flooring supplied and fitted, but also for expert advice on what will be most suitable for their home. Each person’s needs will naturally be different than others’ and this must be considered carefully regardless of whether it is carpet, vinyl or laminate flooring that is required. One of the most common problems in this area is whether to have new underlay along with a new carpet or not. Some companies recommend this as a matter of policy but the issue is not always so black and white. While it is frustrating to the professional carpet fitter to put a new carpet on top of ancient underlay that has turned to dust, no longer offering any support whatsoever, it can be equally dismaying to replace existing underlay that has years of perfectly good life left in it (this also applies to doorplates and any other accessories). We can also advise on a variety of different types and qualities of underlay that are available; for example you may not feel it necessary to have as thick an underlay in the guest bedroom as in the lounge or on the stairs perhaps. We see this issue as more than being just about materials; we want our customers to feel that they can trust us and our recommendations and take this responsibility very seriously.
